Medical care, One Text Away – Tap Is Now Available to TX Health Benefits Pool Members

Medical care, One Text Away – Tap Is Now Available to TX Health Benefits Pool Members

We are excited to share some big news. Tap, Text a Physician, is now the new telehealth provider available to members within the TX Health Benefits Pool (TXHB). This partnership brings fast, simple access to a real medical provider to thousands of Texans across the state, right from their phone.

If you’re a TXHB member, enrollment in Tap will roll out starting in September. Check with your Benefits Coordinator for your specific enrollment timeline, or watch for when Tap becomes available to you.

How It Works for TXHB Members

No app to download. No portal to log into. No waiting room. Just a text conversation with a medical professional who can help diagnose common illnesses, answer urgent questions, and send a prescription to your pharmacy when needed, often in just a few minutes.

Tap is designed to work alongside the care members already have, not replace it. Think of it as having a doctor in the family you can reach any time something comes up and you are not sure what to do next.

“Tap is more than just a medical service; it’s a mission.” says Dr. Dirk Perritt, founder of Tap. “It’s about making sure that everyone, regardless of their background, their situation, or their zip code, has access to affordable, convenient, and effective healthcare. We’re your partner in health, here for you every step of the way.”

Why This Matters for Texas Local Government Employees

Long waits for appointments, limited access in rural areas, and not enough hours in the week to get to the doctor – these are everyday realities for a lot of Texans, including the city employees, school district staff, and other local government workers TXHB serves. Tap was designed to remove those barriers and provide convenient access to care for thousands of Texans across our communities.

“We love how easy it is to get care through Tap.   Our members are all over Texas, some in very rural areas where the ER is the only place available, and this solution gives them access to quality health care right on their phone.   No apps or complex registration needed–it’s like having a doctor in the family you can text to take care of minor health issues or get advice on whether an ER visit is even necessary,”  said Jennifer Hoff, Executive Director, TX Health Benefits Pool. “Our goal is to make good healthcare accessible and affordable and Tap checks all the boxes.”

Who Is TXHB?

TX Health Benefits Pool serves more than 750 groups and over 30,000 members statewide. Their mission to bring quality healthcare benefits at an exceptional value is how access to this care is possible. As a risk pool built specifically for Texas municipalities 47 years ago, TXHB uses its collective size and experience to negotiate better benefits at better rates for its members.

TXHB exists to keep Texas cities running. By making sure city employees, special district staff, school district personnel, and countless other local government workers and their families have access to great care, and we are honored to now be part of that mission.

Getting Started

Enrollment in Tap for TXHB members will start rolling out in September and run through the end of the year, with participating Benefit Coordinators gaining early access and training materials this month to help employees and their families get the most out of Tap on day one.
