Menstrual concerns
Changes in cycle timing, flow or pain can have different causes. A missed period may indicate pregnancy and needs to be considered in the assessment.
Common symptoms
- Irregular or missed periods
- Changes in flow
- Cramping or other period-related discomfort
A useful care conversation
Track the last period, bleeding pattern, pain and any pregnancy-test result. Mention contraception and medicines. A clinician can discuss symptom support and whether testing or an examination is needed. A home pregnancy test does not override concerning pain or bleeding.
When to seek more care
- Get prompt care for unusually heavy bleeding or severe pelvic pain.
- Possible pregnancy with one-sided abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain, faintness or bleeding needs urgent assessment, even without a positive test. Severe pain or collapse needs emergency help.
